Immigration is arguably the most polarizing issue between working class conservatives and those known as “county club” or Chamber of Commerce conservatives. Liberal immigration policies, both legal and illegal, benefit only big corporations and increase unemployment among American workers. Thanks to an abundance of workers, lower wages result. If that isn’t bad enough, uncontrolled immigration from Mexico and Central America is destroying traditional American culture. The country is overwhelmed with millions of people unfamiliar with her history, culture, and constitutional republic form of government. Many are bringing their culture here rather than assimilating into ours. A goal of the Left, this destruction of traditional American culture is a necessary step to transforming America into an open society or socialist country. Therefore, I welcome Donald Trump and his bringing immigration to the forefront of the national political debate. It is my hope that the discussion opens up more eyes to the negative consequences of illegal immigration.
Donald Trump is hard to like. While his extreme arrogance is very difficult to warm up to, I admire him for taking such a brave stand on illegal immigration and suffering the slings and arrows from both sides. Among Republicans, only Rick Santorum, Ted Cruz, and Ben Carson stand behind Trump. It is safe to assume all Democrats and most Libertarians oppose his position.
As a result of jumping into the presidential race and his strong comments on illegal immigration, Trump is sustaining business losses, as NBC said Trump can no longer host “The Apprentice.” Macy’s has also discontinued his clothing line, and Univision among others will no no longer broadcast Trump’s Miss Universe beauty pageants. His potential losses have been estimated to be $50 million.
However, most native born Americans oppose illegal immigration. Many legal immigrants are waking up to the unfairness as well. As one poll shows, 62% of Americans feel illegal immigration is a very serious problem. Trump needed to change the venue in order to accommodate ticket demands for a recent speech in Phoenix. Over 5,000 people showed up to the event that originally expected to bring 500. Currently, one national poll even has Trump leading the pack of GOP contenders. Yet nearly all of big media and politicians of all stripes are criticizing him, and predictably, leftists are calling him a racist as that has become their political weapon of choice, all while ignoring the fact that immigration and racism are two separate issues because this divisiveness and class warfare has worked for the Democrats without fail, they use these issues repeatedly to anger against conservatives.

Illegal immigrants enter the United States by crossing over fences at America’s southern border
So predominant has the recent support of big media and big government politicians become for amnesty that the American people have become nearly powerless to prevent it from becoming law. Trump, however, has breathed life back into the anti-amnesty and border security movement.
Nearly 30 years since its passing, the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 promised that the government would make a concerted effort to control the borders. Almost 10 years since the Secure Fence Act of 2006 was passed – which mandated a 700 mile fence be built along the southern border – sufficient funding for the fence was never appropriated by Congress.

700 miles of border fence as required by the Secure Fence Act of 2006. Congress never set aside funds for the building of the fence.
We can only hope that Trump’s strong statements and the renewed national debate that it has sparked will mark a momentum shift leading to the southern border finally being secured.
