Donald Trump told CNN this morning he believed there would be riots if he was denied the nomination for not obtaining a majority of the delegates.
Republican presidential primary rules specify the nominee must win a majority (1,237) of the 2,472 delegates up for grabs in order to be nominated. The majority needed, therefore, is 1,236 plus 1.
Despite these rules, Trump said on the phone to CNN that “the really big story is how many people are voting in these primaries.”
“If you disenfranchise those people and you say, ‘Well I’m sorry, but you’re a hundred votes short,’ even though the next [candidate] is 500 votes short – I think you would I think you’d have problems like you’ve never seen before. I think bad things would happen, I really do. I wouldn’t lead it, but I think bad things would happen.”
