Democrat presidential candidate Bernie Sanders had a few words to say about Republican “family values” to Iowans on Friday night.
At a large rally in Dubuque, the self-declared socialist seemed to poke at the fact that Republicans hold family values dear. The senator from Vermont then went on to tell his fans what the meaning of “family values” is to Republicans:
“They love families, can’t stop talking about families …
“When Republicans talk about family values, what they are saying is no women in this room, in this state, in this country should have the right to control her own body. I disagree!”
What must be deduced from Sanders’ comments is that he speaks of “family values” solely in terms of the woman carrying a child. Of no consideration is the wellbeing of the family as a whole. Of no importance are the wishes of the father of a child in the womb. Lastly, the rights of the unborn child itself are not even a consideration, as this particular mindset does not accept the fact that a life exists in the womb.
Sanders places the will of the mother above all other considerations. How can this even be considered a “family value” at all?
